Regis Track and Field Collects Several GNAC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - After opening the 2023-24 indoor track and field season with several strong performances Saturday at the Suffolk Relays, five members of the Regis College track and field team received Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards as announced Monday, Dec. 4, by the league office.

Junior Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) received GNAC Male Track Athlete of the Week honors after finishing ninth overall in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:53.64. He also anchored the 4x400 meter relay team that finished in ninth place overall with a total time of 3:49.61.

Fellow junior Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) was named GNAC Female Field Athlete of the Week after performing well in the jumping events Saturday. She finished 14th overall, including fourth among Division III competitors, in the triple jump with a mark of 8.99 meters (29' 6"), plus she posted a personal collegiate-best mark of 4.40 meters (14' 5.25") in the long jump.

Sophomore Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) got his season off to a solid start leading to his selection as GNAC Male Field Athlete of the Week. Thuotte finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.80 meters (42' 0"), 13th in the high jump after clearing 1.70 meters (5' 7"), and tied for 17th in the long jump at 6.07 meters (19' 11"). He also anchored the 4x200 meter relay to an overall time of 1:35.93, just 15/100ths of a second off the school record established in January 2015.

The Pride also swept the GNAC Rookie of the Week awards, including Aleyo Amasa-Titus (Georgetown, Mass.) after a record-setting performance. She broke an 11-year-old school record in the 300 meter dash by 1.75 seconds, finishing 11th overall, fifth among Division III competitors, with a time of 43.50 seconds. She also anchored the 4x200 meter relay that broke a school record with an overall time of 1:53.57, over a half-second faster than the previous standard established over 15 years ago.

First-year student-athlete Zach Myrick (Southington, Conn.) collected GNAC Rookie of the Week honors on the men's side after producing one of Regis' top results Saturday. He finished in a tie for fifth place in the high jump after clearing 1.80 meters (5' 10.75"). He missed just one attempt through the first four heights (1.65m, 1.70m, 1.75m, 1.80m) and finished first among Division III competitors.

The Regis College track and field team returns to competition Saturday, Jan. 6, at the USM Open II hosted by the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, Maine. The meet is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
