Regis Swimming and Diving Participates in Saturday Double Dual

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Regis College swimming and diving team continued its 2022-23 season with a double-dual meet Saturday involving Eastern Connecticut State and hosted by Bridgewater State at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool.

The first overall swimming event victory for the Pride came in the women's 100 freestyle, as Olivia Luhnau (Denver, Colo.) won with a time of 1:00.28, just 2/10ths of a second ahead of teammate Olivia Roux (Sanford, Maine) in second place at 1:00.48. Earlier, Luhnau finished second in the 50 freestyle by 1/10th of a second in 27.56 seconds, while Roux finished third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:34.04.

For the men, Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) picked up a convincing victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.48, 4.7 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Kim also finished second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.16, just a quarter of a second behind the race winner.

Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) touched the wall second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:59.02. In the 200 freestyle, Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.) finished second in 2:15.92, followed by Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) in third place in 2:17.98. Adelfio also finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:30.68, just ahead of Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) in fourth place in 2:30.83.

In the women's 500 freestyle, Davinity Smallwood (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished in second place with a time of 6:08.56, exactly six seconds faster than the time she posted two weeks ago, with Aptt finishing third in 6:12.75.

All three Regis relays finished in third place, starting with the quartet of Miller, Luhnau, Aptt, and Roux in the 200 medley relay in 2:03.53. The foursome of Grace Heffernan (Winchester, Mass.), Rivard, Adelfio, and Smallwood posted a time of 2:03.57 in the women's 200 freestyle relay, with Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.), Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa), Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.), and Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.) combining for an overall time of 1:40.79 in the men's 200 freestyle relay.

Curtis also competed in one meter diving, posting a score of 111.05, while Cashman Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) finished fourth in the women's one meter diving event with a score of 134.60.

In the team scoring, the Regis men lost to Eastern Connecticut State, 137-50, and to Bridgewater State, 154-39, while the Pride women fell to the Warriors, 116-79, and to the Bears, 143-80. Bridgewater State defeated Eastern Connecticut State in both the women's (119-110) and men's (124-79) competitions.

Regis College heads to Wenham, Mass., to face host Gordon College and Elms College at the Bennett Center Natatorium Friday, Oct. 28, beginning at 6 p.m.
