WESTON, Mass. – Alex Wong has agreed to become the head coach of the Regis College men's and women's tennis teams, effective August 1, 2021.

Wong comes to Regis from Wheaton College, where he was the head men's and women's tennis coach since November 2019. Before Wheaton, Wong served as the assistant women's tennis coach at Brown University, fulfilling recruiting duties along with creating practice plans and coordinating logistics for home and away matches.

"I am extremely excited to enter the next chapter of Regis Men's and Women's Tennis under Alex Wong's leadership! Coach Wong has an extensive collegiate coaching resume at quality academic institutions, along with a reputation of being an excellent strategist and an innovative coach," Pam Roecker, Regis College Dean of Athletics, said. "His tactical and technical knowledge combined with his student-centered approach and passion for the sport is going to be a winning combination for all our student-athletes. In addition, Coach Wong's experience as a recruiter is impressive. His organization, professionalism, passion, and personability are a great combination to attract future recruits to both our men's and women's programs."

For five years, Wong was the head men's tennis coach at Vassar College, coaching numerous All-Liberty League players, including Nick Litsky, the 2014 Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Year. The Brewers won 46 matches during Wong's tenure and finished in a tie for first place in the 2014 Liberty League regular season standings with a 5-1 conference record. He also oversaw five consecutive ITA All-Academic Team selections along with several ITA Scholar-Athlete honorees.

"Alex's expertise, coaching experience, caring approach, and dedication to creating a superb student-athlete experience makes him an excellent coach. His enthusiasm and passion for the sport is infectious," Kathy Campbell, head coach of the Vassar College women's tennis team for 42 years, said.

Wong spent 10 seasons as the head women's tennis coach at Bentley University as well as eight seasons as the head men's tennis coach. He collected a combined 206 victories with the two programs, including six appearances in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament and two trips to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament. He was named ITA Men's East Region Coach of the Year in 2010 and ITA Women's East Region Coach of the Year in 2009.

"I am excited to become the next head men's and women's tennis coach at Regis! I want to express my gratitude to Dean Pam Roecker as well as the search committee and all the Regis staff members that I spoke with during the process. It is a great opportunity and I am so fortunate to join the Regis community. I am looking forward to meeting the team and getting ready to compete against our GNAC rivals," Wong said.

As a student-athlete at Wesleyan University from 1999 to 2003, Wong was the No. 1 player for the Cardinals, earning a top-15 regional ranking during his final three seasons and qualifying for the NCAA. He graduated Wesleyan in 2003 with his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and then he went on to earn his master's degree in business administration with a concentration in management from Bentley in 2010.

Wong has continued to play tennis at a high level, as he finished 2015 ranked #1 in the United States in 30-and-under singles. He is a multiple recipient of the USTA Gold Ball, Silver Ball, and Bronze Ball. Since May 2010, Wong has been the director of tennis at Woodland Golf Club in Auburndale, managing the junior tennis program as well as teaching clinics, private lessons, and group lessons to players of all ages and levels.
