Regis Athletics Invites Campus Community to Join Yards for Yeardley Initiative

WESTON, Mass. – As their season-long campaign in support of the One Love Foundation hits the final stretch, the Regis spring sport teams invite members of the campus community to join them as they continue to collect Yards for Yeardley.

The mission of the One Love Foundation is to end relationship abuse by educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships. It was established in honor and memory of Yeardley Love, a member of the University of Virginia women's lacrosse team who was killed by her ex-boyfriend in 2010.

Yards for Yeardley was started in December 2014 by three young women on the Boston College and Virginia lacrosse teams and has become a community awareness and activation event across the country. Thousands of people of all ages have joined together to run, walk, or bike over 500 million yards to honor Yeardley.

This year, the Regis men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, and softball teams have joined forces to honor Yeardley and support the One Love Foundation by setting a goal of reaching one million yards. Yards for Yeardley can take many forms, whether it's running, biking, walking, or other forms of exercise.

The Pride coaches and student-athletes invite members of the Regis community to join them on two special occasions this week. First, everyone is welcome to join the teams at Regis Stadium this Thursday, April 11, starting at 12:30 p.m. to walk a lap, a mile, or longer and dedicate those yards to the teams towards their one-million-yard goal. There will be special T-shirts on sale with the proceeds benefiting the One Love Foundation.

Saturday, April 13, will be a busy day within the Regis athletics complex, as both lacrosse teams and the softball team will be hosting conference contests. Starting at 12 p.m., women's lacrosse will be facing Colby-Sawyer in a matchup of two of the top teams in the GNAC. The softball team hosts Emmanuel in a GNAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., and men's lacrosse caps the day with a conference contest against Norwich at 3:30 p.m.

After each lacrosse match and between games of the softball doubleheader, all three teams will invite their opponents as well as fans to walk a lap around the track at Regis Stadium to move closer to the ultimate goal of one million miles. Once again, T-shirts will be available for purchase at these events to raise money for the One Love Foundation.
