Regis Men’s Lacrosse Closes 2024 Season at Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Regis College battled one of the top teams in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), but Norwich University pulled away in the second and third quarters on its way to an 18-7 victory Wednesday night in a GNAC North Division men's lacrosse match at Sabine Field.

The Pride struck first as Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) scored early in the first quarter, but Norwich responded just 40 seconds later thanks to a goal by Jack Haley. Regis would retake the lead on a goal by Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.), but the Cadets rattled off three straight goals in the span of 57 seconds to pull ahead, 4-2.

Regis battled back, starting with a goal by Connor Deveau (Harwich, Mass.) as the clock showed 4:57 remaining in the opening quarter. Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.), who set up the previous two Pride goals, earned his own tally with 1:33 left in the period off an assist from Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.) to tie the match at 4-4.

Norwich (11-6, 8-2 GNAC) took the lead for good in the second quarter with four goals, half of them scored by Christian Rains. The Cadets then added nine unanswered goals in the third quarter, led by Duncan Youngclaus and Tyler Seidel with two goals apiece in the period.

Just over one-and-a-half minutes into the fourth quarter, Marsella ended the Cadet scoring streak with his second goal of the match. He would then earn assists on goals by Deveau and Klein to close out the scoring for the day.

Norwich did commit more turnovers than Regis, with Colin McGarry (Brookline, N.H.) and Dylan Slichko (Wynantskill, N.Y.) earning three caused turnovers each to lead the Pride. Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) made eight saves in the first three quarters before Ryan Guerrette (Litchfield, N.H.) took over in net for the fourth quarter and was credited with two saves.

Regis College sees the 2024 season conclude with a 7-7 overall record, the most victories for the Pride in seven years. Within the GNAC, Regis posted a 3-7 league record, including a 1-5 mark in the GNAC North to finish sixth in the division.
