NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY - REGIS COLLEGE CELEBRATION

WESTON, Mass. – Once again, the Regis College athletics department will be joining the celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day, a national observance celebrating the extraordinary achievements of women and girls in sports.

Led by the Women's Sports Foundation, National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) aims to empower women and girls to reap the benefits of physical activity and push past their limits not only in sports but also in life. With tools such as confidence, strength, and character gained through sports and physical activity, it is proven that girls will become strong leaders as women in their own lives and in the world.

This year's NGWSD theme is Lead Her Forward, to honor the many ways that sports push girls and women to achieve excellence and realize their boundless potential. This year, NGWSD celebrates all the girls and women across the nation leading us forward into a bright future.

The official observation of NGWSD will take place Wednesday, Feb. 6. At Regis College, the celebration will continue Thursday, Feb. 7, with a clinic hosted by the Pride's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) welcoming guests from the Regis Children's Center as well as other children for fun activities from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

The women's basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 9, has been designated the NGWSD Dedication Game. Children of Regis families, friends, and community members are invited to meet Pride female student-athletes at 11:30 a.m. in the Lower Student Center to make posters, learn new cheers, and other pregame activities.

Before the 1 p.m. tipoff of the game at Higgins Court against Albertus Magnus, the children will be invited to join the fan tunnel to greet the women's basketball players during introductions and the National Anthem. This is also Senior Day, as the three seniors on the team will be honored on the court in a pregame presentation.

Finally, on Tuesday, Feb. 12, Alison Foley, former head coach of women's soccer at Boston College, and Mia Wenjen will hold a discussion surrounding their new book, How to Coach Girls. The two authors will also sign copies of the book, with the presentation taking place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center.
