John Ciarleglio Earns USPTA Continuing Educational Award

HOUSTON – Regis head men's and women's tennis coach John Ciarleglio has been honored by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) for outstanding participation in the association's continuing education program. The announcement came from the USPTA headquarters.

"It's an honor to receive this recognition by the USPTA," said Ciarleglio. "Coaching and teaching tennis continues to be a big part of my life. I believe that spending time every year to keep current with the newest views about teaching tennis helps develop successful Regis men's and women's teams."

Ciarleglio was appointed as the first men's tennis coach in May of 2008 and in May 2010 became the head coach of both the Regis men's and women's tennis programs. He is the winningest coach in Regis women's tennis history and holds seven league titles between the two programs.

Coach Ciarleglio began playing tennis at age 30, learning by taking private lessons, participating in weekly clinics and other tennis training opportunities.  He attended the adult camp at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, Bradenton, FL, in December 1985. Ciarleglio was also recently awarded a Level I Certificate of Achievement by the USPTA and is a past recipient of the Tennis Pro of the Year award for the New England Area (2011).

Founded in 1927, the United States Professional Tennis Association is the global leader in tennis-teacher certification and professional development. With more than 15,000 members worldwide, the association raises the standards of tennis-teaching professionals and coaches, and promotes a greater awareness of the sport. USPTA offers more than 60 professional benefits to its members, including on-court liability insurance, health insurance assistance and a retirement plan.

USPTA offers unequalled opportunities for tennis-teaching professionals to improve their teaching skills and increase their business knowledge. Today's tennis teachers are expected to assume a variety of business and social responsibilities in addition to their traditional job functions. USPTA helps prepare its members to meet these challenges.
