Five Pride Athletes Garner NECC Weekly Awards

NECC Release

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - After an impressive week that saw Pride teams go a combined 8-3-1, five student-athletes from Regis (Mass.) Athletics were honored Monday with New England Collegiate Conference Weekly Awards.

From women’s tennis, freshman Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) swept both the NECC Rookie and Player of the Week Awards after leading her team to a pair of conference victories. McCormack dropped only one point in her two singles matches, winning at No. 2 singles against Becker 6-0, 6-1, and at No. 3 singles against Bay Path 6-0, 6-0. The rookie picked up a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles as well last week with partner Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.).

Regis junior Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) swept the NECC Women’s Cross Country Weekly Honors for the second time in three weeks this week. Curtin (Runner of the Week) and Boucias (Rookie of the Week) placed 25th and 48th, respectively, in the field of 459 runners at the James Earley Invitational on Saturday, leading the Pride to a 20th place finish out of 41. The award is Curtin’s fourth of the season and Boucias’ second.

Pride field hockey sophomore Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) capped off a historic week with her second NECC Player of the Week Award of the season. In a pair of Pride wins, Callahan netted a total of four goals, including a hat trick in a 3-0 win over Wheelock on Saturday. The sophomore’s second goal against Wheelock, her 11th of the season, broke the program’s single-season goals record.

Regis men’s soccer senior goalkeeper Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) rounded out the Pride weekly honors as he earned his first NECC Player of the Week Award last week. In the Pride’s lone game of the week, the senior turned away all five shots he faced to secure a 0-0 tie against Daniel Webster on Saturday.

Every active Regis team returns to action this week, starting off with the men’s tennis team hosting Gordon Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
