Women’s Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Coming off their championship performance at the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Regis College women's track and field team began the outdoor season at the BSU Bears Invitational, hosted Saturday by Bridgewater State University at Swenson Field.

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) continued to run near the front of whatever race she is entered, crossing the finish line in third place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:04.62, just 71/100ths of a second behind the winner and 6/10ths of a second behind the second place finisher. She also finished 10th overall in the 800 meter run in 2:40.28.

Pilar Brown (Rockland, Mass.) finished second in the shot put with a mark of 9.57 meters (31' 4.75") accomplished on her first attempt of the day as well as 15th in the discus throw at 23.03 meters (75' 7"). Anastazia Copeland (West Hartford, Conn.) finished fourth in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 36.50 meters (119' 9"), while Tori Bradley (Dracut, Mass.) placed sixth with a mark of 34.88 meters (114' 5"), also a personal best.

Olivia Dench (Center Moriches, N.Y.) won her heat in the 200 meter dash by 1/100th of a second with a time of 29.76 seconds. Lily Belschner (Revere, Mass.) finished first in her heat of the 100 meter dash with a personal collegiate-best time of 14.44 seconds, with Dench finishing third in 14.68 seconds and Caroline Bond (Pelham, N.H.) in fifth in 15.51 seconds.

Libby Parker (Bow, N.H.) posted a personal collegiate-best time of 21:14.49 in the 5000 meter run, 34 seconds faster than her previous best time, to finish in 11th place. In the 4x100 meter relay, the quartet of Belschner, Micah Bowen (Springfield, Mass.), Bond, and Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) posted a time of 56.90 seconds.

The Regis College track and field team continues the outdoor season next Saturday, April 1, at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University in Somerville, Mass., beginning at 10 a.m.
