School Records Highlight Saturday Competition for Regis Women’s Track & Field

BOSTON/WALTHAM, Mass. - The first school records of the 2022-23 indoor season highlighted competition at two sites for the Regis College women's track and field team, as the Pride were represented Saturday at both the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational at The Track at New Balance and the Reggie Poyau Invitational hosted by Brandeis University.

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) rewrote her own school record in the one mile run, cutting 7.77 seconds off the previous standard of 5:23.83 she established last year at the Middlebury Winterfell. This time, she completed the event in 5:16.06, finishing eighth overall but second among Division III competitors, qualifying for the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 24-25.

At Brandeis, Grace Micklon (Salem, N.H.) tied a seven-year-old record in the high jump, clearing 1.42 meters (4' 7.75") to end up in a tie for seventh place in the event. Micklon's effort tied the school record established by Emily Spillane Jan. 23, 2016, at the Smith College Invitational.

Also at the Suffolk meet, Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished in third place in the 3000 meter run with an overall time of 11:24.69. She moved into third place midway through the race and ended up 4.56 seconds in front of the fourth place finisher.

Back at Brandeis, Kristin Barrett (Plymouth, Mass.) won the shot put with a top mark of 10.14 meters (33' 3.25"). In the weight throw, Anastazia Copeland (West Hartford, Conn.) finished second with a mark of 11.88 meters (38' 11.75"), while Claudia Sevi (Sharon, Mass.) ended up in third place with a top throw of 11.53 meters (37' 10") and Tori Bradley (Dracut, Mass.) finished sixth at 10.61 meters (34' 9.75").

Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) nearly qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles, placing seventh in the preliminaries in 10.30 seconds. She also led the Pride with a 10th place finish in the 60 meter dash preliminaries at 8.63 second, won her heat of the 200 meter dash in 30.28 seconds, and also led Regis in the long jump with a top mark of 4.44 meters (14' 7").

Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.) finished 10th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:07.48, and then she teamed with Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.), Jonnie Charest (Methuen, Mass.), and Elizabeth Stevenson (Scituate, Mass.) for a 10th place finish in the 4x400 meter relay in 5:13.17. Katie Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) also earned a top 10 placement, ending up 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.10 meters (29' 10.25").

The Regis College track and field team heads to Tufts University for the Branwen Smith-King Invitational next Saturday, Jan. 21, beginning at 9 a.m.
