Emily Fagundo Earns Second Career Academic All-America® Selection

AUSTIN, Texas – For the second time in six months, Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) has been selected to a CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® Team, this time earning Second Team honors as the women's track & field/cross country teams were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday, June 21.

In December 2021, Fagundo was a Third Team selection to the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® Women's Volleyball Team, the first student-athlete in any sport to represent Regis College on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team. Fagundo competed year-round for the Pride as part of the volleyball team in the fall, the indoor track and field team in the winter, and the outdoor track and field team in the spring.

Fagundo was named Regis College Class of 2022 Co-Valedictorian after completing her bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Graduating summa cum laude, she received the Maria Leonard Book Award at the Honors Induction Ceremony as well as the prestigious Crimson and Gold tassel during the Baccalaureate Mass and Awards Ceremony and the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award at the Athletics Awards Presentation.

Fagundo finished fourth in the long jump at the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships. During the outdoor season, she posted a personal collegiate-best time of 13.57 seconds in the 100 meter dash at the Silfen Invitational April 16, and she finished third in the 200 meter dash at both the Regis Spring Classic April 8 and the Regis Pre-Conference Meet April 23.

Fagundo earned All-GNAC honors at the 2020 GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a second place finish in the long jump thanks to a personal-best mark of 4.92 meters (16' 1.75"). In 2019, she compiled three individual top-six finishes to score points for the Pride and help the women's team win the GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

"There is no one more deserving of this recognition," Ben Colello, head cross country and track & field coach, said. "Emily is one of the most determined and dedicated individuals I have ever come across, and she truly amazed me with her ability to balance such a full plate and still excel at everything she did. Emily always represented Regis to the best of her ability, she set an incredible standard, and she will continue to be an inspiration to her teammates and myself."

Including Fagundo, 15 members of the Academic All-America® Division III women's track & field/cross country teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The entire women's team holds a collective average GPA of 3.87. Of the 14 members of the Academic All-District® 1 team, 10 of them earned Academic All-America® recognition.
