Regis Track & Field Collects Two Individual GNAC Titles, Several All-GNAC Honors

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Led by two individual conference titles, including one by breaking a school record, and several podium finishes, the Regis College women's track and field team finished in third place at the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted Sunday by Colby-Sawyer College.

The first GNAC individual title of the day for Regis came in the 1500 meter run, as Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) won by almost nine full seconds with a time of 4:53.54, breaking the school record she established March 26 by over seven seconds. Kelley also finished sixth in the 800 meter run in 2:36.53 and joined with Elisa D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.), Elizabeth Stevenson (Scituate, Mass.), and Libby Parker (Bow, N.H.) to finish third in the 4x800 meter relay with an overall time of 11:14.83.

Sam Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) picked up her team's other conference title in the final event of the day, winning the javelin throw with a collegiate-best mark of 37.05 meters (121' 7"). It was a convincing victory for Perkins, as she finished 11.44 meters in front of her nearest competitor and posted throws of at least 32 meters on all six attempts.

Including Perkins's performance, the throwing group enjoyed a solid meet, led by three All-GNAC efforts from Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) by finishing second in the shot put at 10.10 meters (33' 1.75") and third in both the discus throw at 29.83 meters (97' 10") and the hammer throw with a mark of 34.03 meters (111' 8").

Kristin Barrett (Plymouth, Mass.) earned All-GNAC honors with a third place finish in the shot put with a season-best mark of 9.85 meters (32' 3.75"). The Pride also picked up points in the hammer throw at Anastazia Copeland (West Hartford, Conn.) finished fourth at 33.03 meters (108' 4") and Tori Bradley (Dracut, Mass.) placed sixth with a mark of 32.02 meters (105' 1").

Earning All-GNAC honors, Laylan Harris (McKinney, Texas) collected a bronze medal with a third place finish in the 400 meter dash in 1:03.76, as did D'Sa in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:15.29. Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) collected All-GNAC recognition with a third place finish in the 5000 meter run in 19:48.06, plus she finished fourth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:08.57.

Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) competed in six events during the day for the Pride, scoring with a fourth place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.37 seconds in the finals and a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash in 28.52 seconds. She also joined with Francesca Seac (Malden, Mass.), Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.), and Harris to finish third in the 4x100 meter relay with an overall time of 53.71 seconds.

Kilbride qualified for the 100 meter dash finals and finished sixth with a time of 13.80 seconds, while Seac finished fifth in the long jump with a season-best mark of 4.59 meters (15' 0.75"). Katie Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) picked up a point for the Pride as she finished sixth in the triple jump with a collegiate-best mark of 9.02 meters (29' 7.25").

Perkins's victory in the javelin throw allowed Regis to move into third place in the final team standings with 99 points. Emmanuel College cruised to the GNAC team title with 244 points, followed by host Colby-Sawyer with 183 points.

Perkins and Erin Kelley have both qualified for the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., and are set to compete Friday, May 6. Perkins is scheduled to participate in the javelin throw Friday starting at 5:30 p.m., with Kelley set to compete in the 10,000 meter run Friday at 7:15 p.m.
