One Record Broken, One Record Tied for Pride at Silfen Invite

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) broke a school record for the second time during the outdoor track and field season as Regis College competed at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16.

Kelley finished ninth overall in the 10,000 meter run Friday night with a time of 39:44.42, over three minutes faster than the previous standard established exactly 22 years beforehand by Colleen Boddy (April 15, 2000). Kelley qualified for the Division III New England Championships with the time.

Catherine Hegarty (Needham, Mass.) tied the school record in the high jump by clearing 1.42 meters (4' 7.75"), the mark established by Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) earlier this season. Francois was Regis' top finisher in the long jump, ending up in 22nd place with a mark of 4.65 meters (15' 3.25").

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) came close to breaking her own school record in the 1500 meter run, posting a time of 5:01.26, 8/100ths of a second off her record time March 26. She also led off the 4x800 meter relay team, joining with Elisa D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.), Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.), and Elizabeth Stevenson (Scituate, Mass.) to finish fourth in the event with an overall time of 10:55.58.

Sam Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) posted the Pride's best individual finish by placing fourth in the javelin throw with a season-best mark of 34.32 meters (112' 7"). Perkins also posted a personal-best mark of 9.11 meters (29' 10.75") in the shot put, as did Kristin Barrett (Plymouth, Mass.) at 9.15 meters (30' 0.25"), with Allie Sanidas (Ipswich, Mass.) leading Regis in the event with a mark of 9.32 meters (30' 7"). Sanidas also earned a season-best mark of 32.25 meters (105' 10") in the hammer throw, just behind Maddy Robertson's (Athol, Mass.) personal-best mark of 32.36 meters (106' 2").

Francois, Erin Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.), Laylan Harris (McKinney, Texas), and Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) joined together to post a time of 4:41.41 in the 4x400 meter relay to finish seventh overall. Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.) teamed with Fagundo, Sheehan, and Francois to complete the 4x100 meter relay in 53.00 seconds, placing 13th overall.

The Regis College track and field team will host a pre-conference meet next Saturday, April 23, starting at 11 a.m. at Regis Stadium.
