Ashleigh Kelley, Elisabeth Cooke Receive GNAC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – After solid performances in helping the Regis College women's track and field team win the overall title at last Friday's Regis Spring Classic, senior Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week, and graduate student Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) has been selected as the GNAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, announced Monday afternoon, April 11, by the league office.

Kelley cruised to the win in the 1500 meter run at Friday's meet. Her time of 5:02.79 was over three seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Kelley then led off the 4x400 meter relay as it was victorious with an overall time of 4:49.46. She remains first on the GNAC performance list in the 1500 meter run as well as fourth in the 800 meter run. This is Kelley's second GNAC weekly award of the outdoor track and field season, as she was previously recognized March 28 after setting the school record in the 1500 meter run.

Competing for the first time this season after recently rejoining the program, Cooke finished second in the discus throw with a mark of 30.06 meters (98' 7") and third in the hammer throw at 35.59 meters (116' 9"). Her hammer throw mark was a career personal best and moved her into third on the GNAC performance list. She is also now atop the league performance list in the discus throw. This is Cooke's second career GNAC weekly award, as she was named GNAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week Jan. 27, 2020.

The Regis College track and field team will head to New London, Conn., for the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College Friday and Saturday, April 15-16.
