Erin Kelley Named GNAC Women’s Track Athlete of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Thanks to a new school record while competing against runners from top programs in both Division I and Division III, senior Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week, announced Monday afternoon, Jan. 24, by the league office.

Saturday at the Middlebury Winterfell in Middlebury, Vt., Kelley completed the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:05.29, 1.59 seconds faster than the previous school record established almost eight full years ago (Feb. 8, 2014) by Siobhan McLaughlin at the 2014 MIT Invitational. Kelley finished in fifth place in the event behind two runners from the University of Vermont and two competitors from Amherst College. Kelley's time was 37.44 seconds quicker than her previous personal best mark in the 3000 meter run posted at the 2019 Smith Invitational.

With her performance Saturday, Kelley now holds the fastest time in the 3000 meter run among GNAC competitors by over 12 seconds. She is also fourth on the GNAC performance list in the one mile run after posting a time of 5:52.64 at the MIT Art Farnham Invitational Jan. 8.

This is Kelley's first career GNAC weekly award and the second consecutive week a member of the Pride has been named GNAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

The Regis College track and field team will return to the Virtue Field House in Middlebury, Vt., for the Middlebury Invitational Saturday, Jan. 29, starting at 11 a.m. The Pride will then prepare for the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
