PRIDE COMPETE AT GBTC INVITATIONAL

WESTON, Mass.-Competing at the GBTC Invitational (held at Harvard University) this Saturday, the indoor track and field team officially moved into the prime portion of their meet season. The meet became another venue for men’s school records and personal bests to be set, both of which have been the trend for the 2011-12 season.

Kicking off the meet was the 60 meter dash with freshman Chandler Davies (Hartford, Conn.), just barely missing the school record set earlier this year by Ibrahim Alpha (Pennsauken, N.J.). In her first race of the indoor season, captain Anyah Hernandez (Brookline, Mass.) also sped through the 60-meter dash, while, co-captain Katherine Warner (Shrewsbury, Mass.), improved by over a second in the 200-meter dash from the previous week’s competition.

Later in the meet Davies would join fellow freshmen Jeremy Israel (Medfield, Mass.) and Ryan Manning (Hanover, Mass.) in the 200-meter dash. Manning posted his best collegiate performance to date with a 24.01s race; in addition to setting an all-time personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.70s performance. Israel would also set a new all-time personal best in the quarter-mile with his mark, setting a new school record in the process. His 51.33s broke the school record set by Davies one week earlier, and qualified him for the Division III New England Track and Field Championships.

In the distance events sophomore Sarah Schow (Northborough, Mass.) set an indoor personal best in the 3,000-meter run, running just shy of her all-time record with a time of 12:49.98min. Her training partner Owen McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) also improved his 3,000-meter performance with a 10:18.01min race, resetting the men’s school record he set in December by over 15 seconds.

Last but not least, top field events included sophomore Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H.)  placing 3rd in the pole vault and freshman Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) adding to his 16lbs shot put school record set in December with a throw of 11.88meters, just under the 39’ mark.

The Pride’s next meet with be at the Boston Terrier Invitational on January 27-28th.
