PRIDE COMPETES AT NEW ENGLAND TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Weston, Mass.—The Regis College track team competed at the Division III New England Track & Field Championships Saturday (Feb. 19) at MIT. The Pride placed five athletes who competed in the 4x200 meter relay and pole vault.

Freshman vaulter Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H./Nashua) capped off her inaugural collegiate track season at the championships.  Rapsis started the day with a setback; she twisted her ankle during warm-ups. Rapsis did not let this injury get her down.  She stayed strong and competed in the vault event, but did not place high due to her injury.

The women’s 4x200 meter relay blazed to a fast finish at the New England Track and Field Championships. The quartet of Ana Baker (Hartford, Conn./Hartford), Deborah Cesar (Milton, Mass./Milton), Katherine Warner (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) , and Kate Haslam (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane) competed for the Pride. In the previous week the Pride tallied a time of 2:00.25 m to qualify for the championships. A few days of strong practice helped the team shave two seconds off of their time, running a 1:58.00.  This fast finish put the Pride second in the event.  The time was also the third fastest in school history.

The New England Track and Field Championship was the final event for the Pride’s indoor track season. The Pride’s outdoor track season will open on Saturday (Mar. 19) at Northeastern University.
