Lax 4 Life Match to Cap Busy Saturday at Regis

WESTON, Mass. – With spring weather finally making its appearance, the Regis College athletics department will host several events Saturday, March 16, including the first conference matches of the 2019 season for both men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse as well as the first home contests for the men's volleyball team in a month.

The Regis women's lacrosse program is collaborating with its opponent Norwich in sponsoring a Lax 4 Life match, putting the spotlight on young adult and adolescent suicide prevention. Both teams will be wearing special Lax 4 Life warmup shirts, and fans will have an opportunity to purchase those shirts with proceeds benefiting Lax 4 Life.

As for the actual match, which is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., the Pride will look to rebound after a 16-7 loss to Utica Tuesday. Meanwhile, Norwich sits atop the GNAC standings with a 2-0 league mark after convincing victories over Anna Maria and Rivier. The Cadets are 3-0 overall, as they defeated Plattsburgh 11-10 earlier this week.

In the first half of Saturday's lacrosse doubleheader, the Regis men's lacrosse team hosts Lasell starting at 12 p.m. in the first league contest for both squads. Regis opened its season with an 11-8 victory over Mitchell Wednesday in New London, Conn., while Lasell brings a 3-1 record into the match with wins over MIT, Plymouth State, and Eastern Connecticut State. However, all three Laser victories have come at home, while the lone loss was on the road at Roger Williams.

Inside, the Pride men's volleyball team plays its first home matches since Feb. 13, hosting Lasell and Emmanuel in a tri-match beginning at 10 a.m. Regis improved to .500 at 7-7 with a convincing 3-0 sweep over Bard Tuesday night, while Emmanuel is 12-9 overall and 1-2 within the GNAC after sweeping Emerson Thursday and Lasell brings an 8-10 record, including a 2-2 league mark, into the tri-match after a 3-0 victory at Colby-Sawyer back on March 7.

Last season, in a tri-match hosted by Emmanuel March 31, Regis swept Lasell for its first-ever victory over the Lasers. The Pride nearly defeated Emmanuel for their first win ever over the Saints, but Emmanuel rallied from a two-sets-to-one deficit to win the contest in five sets.

On the lacrosse field, the Regis men faced Lasell for the first time last season as the Pride went through their first season in the GNAC, with the Lasers winning the contest, 16-3. Meanwhile, on March 27, 2018, in Northfield, Vt., Kerri Anselmo scored twice late in the second half to help the Regis women's lacrosse team defeat Norwich, 9-8.
