Thuotte, Abreu Earn GNAC Recognition from Indoor Track & Field Season

WINTHROP, Mass. - Sophomore Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) earned his second career major award from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) as he was voted GNAC Field Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 indoor track and field season, and classmate Bryan Abreu (Haverhill, Mass.) was selected to the GNAC Men's Indoor Track and Field All-Sportsmanship Team, as the league office announced the major award winners Thursday, March 14.

While competing in the heptathlon at the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, Thuotte broke two school records, first posting a mark of 6.60 meters (21' 8") in the long jump and then completing the heptathlon with 4,008 points, finishing fifth for All-New England honors. He also earned a collegiate-best mark of 10.33 meters (33' 10.75") in the shot put.

At the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, Thuotte won both the long jump and the triple jump, first finishing atop the long jump standings with a mark of 6.44 meters (21' 1.5") before earning a collegiate-best mark of 12.86 meters (42' 2.25") to win the triple jump. He also finished second in the pole vault after clearing 3.10 meters (10' 2") and scored for the Pride with a fourth place finish in the high jump and a fifth place finish in the 60 meter dash.

Abreu flew past the 10-meter mark in the shot put several times during the indoor season with a collegiate-best effort of 10.85 meters (35' 7.25") at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational at Brandeis University Jan. 13. Out of five meets, he finished with marks above 10 meters four times, including a sixth place finish at the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at 10.75 meters (35' 3.25").

In addition, the conference coaches voted Regis the recipient of the GNAC Institutional Sportsmanship Award for men's indoor track and field. The Pride finished second at the 2024 GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The outdoor track and field season begins Saturday, March 23, as Regis competes at the BSU Bears Invitational hosted by Bridgewater State. The Pride will host the annual Regis Spring Classic Friday, April 5, as well as the GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, the third time Regis has hosted the event since joining the league in 2017-18.
