Kiesel, 4x800 Relay Set School Records at Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) completed the grueling two-day decathlon with three new school records, and the 4x800 meter relay squad capped the meet with another new school record as Regis College competed at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16.

After starting the decathlon with a 100 meter dash time of 12.91 seconds, Kiesel broke the school record in the long jump with a mark of 5.83 meters (19' 1.5"). He then posted the best shot put mark among the decathletes at 11.51 meters (37' 9.25") to move into fifth place after three events.

Kiesel concluded the Friday portion of the event by clearing 1.48 meters (4' 10.25") in the high jump and posting a 400 meter dash time of 52.42 seconds. After starting Saturday with a time of 20.44 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, he earned the top discus throw mark of 33.75 meters (110' 8"), followed by a clearance of 3.05 meters (10') in the pole vault, setting a new school record.

He closed out the event with the second-best mark in the javelin throw at 42.85 meters (140' 7") and a time of 4:57.71 in the 1500 meter run to end up with 4,970 points. That point total established a new school record, qualified Kiesel for the Division III New England Championships, and placed him eighth overall in the event.

The quartet of Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.), AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.), Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.), and Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.) finished fourth in the 4x800 meter relay with a school record time of 8:41.71. That time is over five seconds faster than the previous school record established five years ago (Apr. 30, 2017) at the Regis Pride Classic.

Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) finished in 19th place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 19.33 seconds, while Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) ended up in 23rd place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.95. Nicholas Pastore (Norwood, Mass.) posted a season-best time of 11.84 seconds in the 100 meter dash.

The Regis College track and field team will host a pre-conference meet next Saturday, April 23, starting at 11 a.m. at Regis Stadium.
