Men’s Track and Field Wins Regis Spring Classic

WESTON, Mass. – Thanks to five event victories and several scoring performances, including a school record, the Regis College men's track and field team finished first in the Regis Spring Classic, held Friday, April 8, at Regis Stadium.

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) improved upon his school record in the javelin throw by a half-meter, finishing third in the event with a mark of 45.84 meters (150' 5"). He also scored 10 points for the Pride in the high jump by clearing 1.47 meters (4' 9.75"), finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles in 19.90 seconds, and anchored the 4x400 meter relay, joining with Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.), Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.), and Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) to finish first with an overall time of 3:38.41.

Carroll also finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.10, with Happenny crossing the finish line in third place in 2:04.17. Margiatto ended up in second place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.11 seconds, just 17/100ths of a second behind Dareek Roberts of Maine-Presque Isle and 1/100th of a second in front of Ian McGrath of UMass Boston.

AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.) started the meet by picking up 10 points in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:34.3. Gustavo Novelle-Ruddy (Boston, Mass.) also finished atop the standings in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:39.17.

Nicholas Pastore (Norwood, Mass.) finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.97 seconds and third in the 200 meter dash after completing the race in 24.07 seconds. Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) crossed the finish line second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:43.88, and Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) finished second in the 110 meter hurdles in 18.00 seconds.

As a team, Regis finished the meet with 109 points, just ahead of Mass Maritime with 106 points and Lasell with 101 points.

Regis College heads to New London, Conn., next weekend for the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College Friday and Saturday, April 15-16.
