Regis Spring Classic Shortened by Snow

WESTON, Mass. - The annual Regis Spring Classic was cut short due to snow Friday afternoon at Regis Stadium, but not before the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's track & field teams were able to take part in a handful of events.

Before the event was called, the Regis Athletic Department honored the two seniors on the track and field team, thrower Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.), and sprinter Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.).

The throwers had a big day despite the elements, as a Pride student-athlete won both of the event that were completed. Sophomore ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) won the women's hammer throw in dominating fashion with a throw of 44.20 meters. Coming in second was also a member of the Pride, as junior Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.) threw a PR of 36.56 meters. Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) and Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) came in sixth and seventh place respectively with throws of 32.05 and 30.39 meters.

On the men's side, junior Dan LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) took the title in the shot put with a throw of 12.77 meters. Frank Pelleteri (Freeport, Maine) placed fifth in the event with a throw of 11.47 meters, while freshman Cole Anderson (Falmouth, Maine) placed seventh with a throw of 11.13 meters.

The Pride took second in the only track event they competed in before the snow came, as Cassandra Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.), Faith Montgomery (Abington, Mass.), Abbie Cooke (Abington, Mass.), and Shelagh O'Neil (Tyngsboro, Mass.) combined to run a 57.20 in the women's 4x100 relay. The men's 4x100 relay and the women's 1500 meter were also completed, but no members of the Pride took part in the events.

Next up for Regis, they'll look for better weather on April 14 at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational, hosted by Fitchburg State University.
