Pride Track & Field Nearly Sweeps GNAC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – After several strong performances at the Art Farnum Invitational hosted by MIT Saturday, Jan. 8, the Regis College track and field team nearly swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards, as five members of the Pride were recognized by the league office within this week's report that encompassed all competition Jan. 1-16.

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) was named GNAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week after earning two first place finishes, winning the 800 meter run in 2:40.93 and the one mile run in 5:29.85, just 36/100ths of a second off her school record. After receiving five league weekly awards during the 2021 cross country season, Kelley collects her first career GNAC weekly award in track and field.

Senior Hannah Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) received GNAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors after posting three personal best marks at MIT. In the long jump, Plamondon finished fifth with a mark of 4.32 meters (14' 2.25"), and she posted a personal best mark of 9.15 meters (30' 0.25") in the triple jump. Plamondon also posted a personal indoor best time of 11.02 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles.

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) collected the GNAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week award as he continued to show his versatility at MIT. He finished fifth in the long jump with a personal indoor best mark of 5.83 meters (19' 1.5") accomplished on his fifth attempt. Kiesel also finished fourth in the 400 meter run with a time of 53.34 seconds.

Regis College also picked up both GNAC Rookie of the Week awards in indoor track and field. Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.) notched times of 8.94 seconds in the 60 meter dash and 31.05 seconds in the 200 meter dash, finishing first in both events. In the throwing events, Danny Skinner (Natick, Mass.) showed improvement from his initial collegiate performance with marks of 8.33 meters (27' 4") in the shot put and 7.19 meters (23' 7.25") in the weight throw.

Regis College is next scheduled to compete in the Middlebury Winterfell, hosted by Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., Saturday, Jan. 22, starting at 11 a.m.
