Women’s Volleyball Defeats Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – Regis College defeated Worcester State University, 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-16, 25-22), Tuesday night in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at Brissette Court.

Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.) led the Pride with a season-high 12 kills, plus she hit .529 in the match. Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with 19 assists, seven kills, nine digs, and three block assists, while Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) contributed seven kills, three service aces, and eight digs. Defensively, Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) helped lead the team with three block assists and 10 digs.

After the teams split the first two sets, Regis won the first three points of the third set, but Worcester State responded with a 5-1 scoring run, capped by a service ace from Megan Bardis. After a kill by Cassie Millea, the Pride scored six unanswered points, and then they scored five of the final six points of the set, featuring kills by Tenorio, Lauren Tuttle (Stratham, N.H.), and Dow.

Worcester State (3-4) scored the first three points of the fourth set, but Regis responded with a 9-2 scoring run, punctuated by a service ace from Toni Ondris (Mineola, N.Y.). The Pride scored five straight points to extend their advantage, but the Lancers battled back with five unanswered points of their own. A kill by Mckinney brought about match point, and Regis eventually converted thanks to a Lancer attack error.

The Pride held the Lancers to a negative hitting percentage in the match with 46 digs and seven team blocks.

Regis (4-4) hosts Salve Regina and Husson in a tri-match Saturday, Sept. 16, with the Pride facing the Seahawks at 10 a.m. and the Eagles at 2 p.m.
