Pride Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Curry in Home Contest

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College controlled the action throughout Tuesday night's match, defeating Curry College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-13), in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball contest at Higgins Court.

Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) led the Pride with seven kills while making just one attack error for a .500 hitting percentage, while Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with six kills, 13 assists, and a team-high eight defensive digs. Kaitlyn Miller (Nottingham, N.H.) dished out 14 assists to go along with three service aces, Makenzie Price (Birmingham, Ala.) earned seven digs, and Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) contributed four total blocks along with three kills.

The Pride scored the first three points in the match thanks in part to kills by Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.) and Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.). Regis kept extending its lead throughout the set, including a 7-1 scoring run that gave the Pride a 19-9 advantage. The home team would score the final four points of the opening set, clinching it on kills by Dow and Tenorio as well as a block by Dow and Whalen.

Regis opened an 8-3 lead in the second set thanks in part to two kills by Montigny and two service aces from Miller. The Pride opened a 12-point advantage with a 9-1 scoring run, led by three kills from Tenorio. Curry would score three unanswered points, punctuated by a block from Leah Oscar-Phoenix and Jess Sullivan, but Regis responded with an 8-4 run to close out the set, capped by a block from Montigny and Samantha Silveira (East Taunton, Mass.).

Curry took a 4-3 lead early in the third set, starting with a service ace by Abby Sousa and a kill by Sonja Matheson, but the Pride rattled off six straight points, capped by kills from Nicolette Teti (Marblehead, Mass.) and Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.). The Colonels closed to within two at 12-10 on a service ace by Morgan Muscato, but Regis put together a 13-3 scoring run to finish the set and the match, including consecutive kills late in the stretch by Emma Gearing (Foster, R.I.).

The Colonels were held to seven kills in the match as the Pride finished with 40 digs and six team blocks. Lauren Guzman led Curry defensively with nine digs, followed by Avia Fraine with eight digs.

Regis College (4-5) opens conference play Saturday, Sept. 17, in Boston, facing Emmanuel at 1 p.m. and host Simmons at 3 p.m. Curry (3-3) continues a busy week with a road match at Albertus Magnus Wednesday, Sept. 14, starting at 7 p.m.
