REGIS STAYS PERFECT IN NECC WITH 3-0 SWEEP

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team used set scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-11 en route to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Daniel Webster College in New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Pride improve to 17-8 overall and 4-0 in the NECC, while the Eagles drop to 4-13 and 2-2 in league matches.

Regis jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the opening game and eventually took a 15-8 lead on back-to-back kills from Gracie Molinari (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) that forced a Daniel Webster timeout. The Eagles would get as close as 15-11 after a Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) service ace, but the Pride ended the game on a 10-5 run – including the final four points of the set – to take the opening game, 25-16.

Daniel Webster opened the second set by taking a commanding 7-2 lead after five-straight errors by the Pride. Regis was able to tie it at 8-8 on a DWC error, and took a 10-9 lead on a Shay Faber (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) ace before extending their lead to 15-10 after a block from Molinari and Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.).

The two teams traded points before a 6-0 run from the Eagles knotted the set at 20 apiece. Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass.) had a pair of kills during the run, while Maggie Belli (Miami, Fla.) added a service ace. Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.) ended the run with a kill and another Faber service ace gave the Pride some breathing room at 22-20.

Two straight errors from DWC got the Pride within one point of a victory at 24-20, but a quick 3-0 spurt from the Eagles cut the deficit to one and forced a Regis timeout. Out of the break, Tina Lathrop (Houston, Texas) set up Connolly for a kill that ended the second game, 25-23.

The third game started out as a back-and-forth battle as the game was tied 3-3 early, but Regis rattled off an 8-1 run to take a commanding 11-4 lead and never looked back, sealing the 3-0 sweep with a 25-11 win. The Pride swung .478 during the set as Molinari had four kills.

Gracie Molinari led the Pride attack with 14 kills on the day. Kristina del Rey joined her in double-figures with 12 kills, while Nicole Connolly added seven kills and a team-high 11 digs. Tina Lathrop handed out a match-high 34 assists, and Shay Faber had an all-around game with three kills, four aces, and six digs.

Courtney Sheyenne-Warrington (Canton, Texas) posted eight kills and a block to lead the Eagles. Madeline Roulier added seven kills and four digs. Nicole Beard handed out 16 assists and had three digs, while Maggie Belli led the DWC defense with a match-high 13 digs. Sarah Durocher (Keene, N.H.) chipped in seven digs.

Regis is back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Becker College for a 7:00 p.m. NECC match. The Eagles are also in action that night, hosting Elms College at 7:00 p.m.
