PRIDE'S PATIENCE PAYS OFF FOR FIRST WIN

Weston, Mass.---The Regis College women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season Saturday (Sept. 11) with a hard fought win over Anna Maria College.  The Pride got their first win of the day in doubles play with a strong performance by freshman Kunjan Patel (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) and freshman Paige Pasley ( Dorchester, Mass./Fontbonne Academy), who won their match (8-2). 

The Pride were down a point at the start of singles play, but freshman Teanna Montoya (Oak Bluffs, Mass./Martha's Vineyard Regional) turned this around by winning her singles match (6-2,6-1). With Montoya's spark the Pride went on to win the next four out of six matches.  Junior Mary Jane Barron (Whitinsville, Mass./Holy Name) won her singles match (6-4,6-2).  Kunjan Patel went (7-5, 6-4) to win her singles match and freshman Maryse Emungu (South Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) defeated Anna Maria's  Elizabeth Sama ( Windsor, Conn. ) to secure the win for the Pride.  The Pride won the match by a score of 5-4.

For the AMCATS, doubles partners Kelly Blake (Southbridge, Mass./Southbridge)  and Emily Williamson (Spencer, Mass./David Prouty) had a strong performance winning their match (8-4).  Sophomore's Jacqui Barbaro (Middlebury, Conn.) and Brittany Quattrocci (Verganes, Vt./Union)  also won their doubles match respectively at (8-4).

The Pride have their next home contest Saturday (Sept. 18) against Roger Williams.  The AMCATS are set to take on Thomas College and Salve Regina later this week.
