Pride Cruise to Senior Day Victory

WESTON, Mass. – Led by the six seniors competing for the final time at home, the Regis College women's swimming and diving team defeated Albertus Magnus College, 126-37, Saturday in a collegiate dual meet at the Regis Aquatic Center.

Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) led off the meet in the 400 medley relay, and Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) anchored the relay to victory, joining with sophomores Julia Burke (North Andover, Mass.) and Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.) for a time of 4:29.28. Leonard also won the 50 freestyle in a season-best time of 26.22 seconds as well as the 50 backstroke in 30.16 seconds.

Zernitsky finished first in the 50 butterfly in 29.42 seconds, plus she ended up second in the 50 freestyle in 27.00 seconds. Burke posted the best time in the 50 breaststroke at 34.37 seconds, while Lancisi finished second in the 100 individual medley in 1:12.02, behind fellow sophomore Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.), who won the event in 1:08.86.

Ryan Moran (Arlington, Mass.) won the 1000 freestyle in 13:36.95, plus she posted a time of 1:09.36 in the 100 freestyle. Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:14.99, and she completed the 500 freestyle in 6:06.73. Moran and Sutton also joined Boatwright and Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) to post a mark of 2:01.35 in the 200 freestyle relay to conclude the meet.

Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) put together an 11-dive score of 360.31 with a five-dive total of 173.48 and a six-dive score of 186.83. Caoilinn Bassignani (Franklin, Mass.) led off the "B" squad for the 400 medley relay before competing individually in the 50 freestyle (32.13 seconds) and the 50 backstroke (35.06 seconds).

Regis also received top performances from Bowie in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:06.48 and Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.) in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 6:03.13.

Before the meet, Bassignani, Leonard, McQuaid, Moran, Sutton, and Zernitsky were honored for their significant contributions to the Pride swimming and diving program.

Regis (7-1) heads to New London, N.H., for a double-dual meet against host Colby-Sawyer and Simmons next Saturday, Jan. 11, starting at 12 p.m. The men's swim team will also compete against the Chargers to restart its 2019-20 campaign.
