Women’s Swim Team Cruises to Dual Meet Win

WENHAM, Mass. – Regis College posted the fastest time in every event on its way to a 124-54 victory over Gordon College Saturday afternoon in a women's collegiate swimming dual meet at the Bennett Center.

The Pride opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay, as the quartet of Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.), Julia Burke (North Andover, Mass.), Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.), and Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.) finished first with a time of 2:03.77.

Regis occupied the top three spots in the 1650 freestyle, led by Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) in 20:13.05, followed by Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) in 20:49.16 and Ryan Moran (Arlington, Mass.) in 21:14.56. Later in the meet, Sutton would win the 500 freestyle in 6:06.16.

Eight different Pride swimmers would finish an event with the fastest time, with Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) the only double winner in the meet, first touching the wall before anyone else in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.44. The sophomore then finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.35.

Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:12.09, ahead of Adelfio's second-place mark of 2:14.65. Mallytza Ibarra Davila (Yuma, Ariz.) picked up the victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.87 seconds, 3/10ths of a second ahead of Gordon's Abigail Bacon.

Lancisi cruised to a victory in the 200 individual medley in 2:30.34, while Zernitsky was four seconds ahead of her nearest competitor in the 100 freestyle with a winning time of 1:00.13. Burke posted the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke at 1:16.55, and then the relay team of Lancisi, Boatwright, Leonard, and Zernitsky completed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.42.

The Regis College men's swim team competed against each other in exhibition events in order to stay sharp heading into future meets.

Regis (4-0) heads to Northfield, Vt., for a meet against host Norwich University and fellow traveling squad Babson College next Saturday, Nov. 9, with a 1 p.m. start.
