Women’s Swim & Dive Finishes Third at RWU Invite

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Regis College women's swimming and diving team continued its 2019-20 season by participating in the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday, hosted by the Hawks at the RWU Aquatics Center.

The Pride women kicked off the meet by winning the 200 medley relay, establishing the lead on a strong leadoff 50 back split of 29.37 seconds by Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.). After Julia Burke (North Andover, Mass.) posted a 50 breast split of 34.35 seconds, Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.) produced a solid 50 fly split of 28.75 seconds, and Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) completed her 50 free anchor leg in 26.60 seconds for a total time of 1:59.07, 24/100ths of a second ahead of the second place quartet from Clark University.

Lancisi earned the highest individual finish for a Regis female swimmer, touching the wall second in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.65, plus she finished fifth in the 100 backstroke after posting a personal-best time of 1:07.30. Boatwright's best individual performance was a fourth place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:25.84.

Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) also posted a top-five individual finish, ending up in a tie for fifth in the 50 freestyle at 27.15 seconds. She also led off the 200 freestyle relay, joining with Mallytza Ibarra Davila (Yuma, Ariz.), Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.), and Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) for a fourth place finish in 1:54.21. Zernitsky capped her day by swimming the second leg of the 400 freestyle relay, after Boatwright and before Sutton and Leonard as the quartet finished third in 4:04.70.

Leonard was Regis' top finisher in the 100 freestyle, placing seventh with a time of 59.56 seconds. Burke finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.46, while Bowie ended up in eighth place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:56.02.

As a team, the Pride women finished in third place among nine teams with 234 points, just 2.5 points behind second place UMass Dartmouth. Host Roger Williams cruised to the team title with 651 points.

Regis returns to dual meet competition next week, opening the home schedule with a double-dual meet against Bridgewater State and Eastern Connecticut State starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Regis Pool.
