Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Norwich in 2023 Home Finale

WESTON, Mass. - In its final home match of the 2023 regular season, Regis College lost to Norwich University, 15-4, Friday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Norwich jumped on the board 39 seconds into the match as Michalia Furchak scored off an assist from Valentina Drown behind the net. Regis responded just over two minutes later when Abbie Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.) earned her 17th goal of the season, with Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) picking up the assist.

Athena Merck scored on a free position attempt to put the Cadets ahead for good as the visitors scored the last six goals of the first quarter. The combination of Ellie Moriarty and Maddie Etherton connected on consecutive goals 67 seconds apart late in the period, followed by a goal from Emma O'Neill to give Norwich a 7-1 lead.

The Cadets continued to extend their lead in the second quarter as Merck scored back-to-back goals, followed by a tally from Neris Archambault to give Norwich a 10-1 halftime advantage. In the second half, Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) converted a free position attempt for her 31st goal of the season, and Pero would later earn her second assist on a goal by Krysonia Tavares (Everett, Mass.) right before the end of the third quarter.

Pero scored an unassisted goal early in the fourth quarter to bring the Pride within eight goals at 12-4, but Norwich would complete the scoring with three goals from three different players in the final six minutes of the match.

Merck led the Cadets with four goals, while Etherton also notched a hat trick with three goals. Maeve Noble-Lowe picked up the victory in net for Norwich as she made eight saves, half of them coming in the second quarter to prevent the Pride from putting together a comeback.

Pero led the Pride with three total points on a goal and two assists as well as two caused turnovers. Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished with 15 saves, her second-highest save total of the season.

Regis College (6-9, 4-8 GNAC) closes the 2023 regular season with a trip west to face Elms College Wednesday, April 26, starting at 7 p.m. Norwich (7-8, 6-6 GNAC) hosts Dean College on the final day of the regular season Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
