Pride Women’s Lacrosse Earns Key GNAC Victory over Lasell

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College rattled off scoring runs of four goals and six goals in the second half to pull away for a 16-11 victory over Lasell University Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) led the Pride with six goals along with an assist, while Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) finished with three goals and an assist, earning the 100th point of her entire collegiate career. Abbie Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.) also notched a hat trick with three goals, and Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) contributed two goals to the winning effort.

Marley singlehandedly made two successful clearing attempts early in the first quarter and continued on to score her first two goals of the match. After Emily Chapdelaine put Lasell on the board midway through the opening period, Retta Hatin (Hooksett, N.H.) converted a free position attempt 26 seconds later, and Conover was successful on her own free position shot to increase the Pride lead to 4-1.

After an exchange of goals by Teresa Kessner and Marley in the first minute of the second quarter, the Lasers scored four unanswered goals, led by two goals from Kessner as well as a goal and an assist from Chapdelaine, to pull ahead heading into halftime, 6-5.

Marley collected the opening draw control of the third quarter and scored 17 seconds into the period to tie the match at 6-6, but Chapdelaine converted a free position attempt a little over three minutes later to allow Lasell to retake the lead at 7-6. Marley set up Pero for the game-tying goal, and then goals by Conover and Doheny 14 seconds apart put the Pride ahead, 9-7, with 7:04 remaining in the third quarter.

Goals by Chapdelaine and Kaitlin Bedell brought the Lasers within one goal at 10-9 early in the fourth quarter, but Marley responded with another unassisted tally just 37 seconds later, starting a six-goal run by the Pride, featuring two goals apiece by Doheny and Pero as well as a goal from Maddey Strickland (Hopkinton, Mass.). Kessner scored twice in the span of 52 seconds to close the Laser deficit, but Regis was able to run out the clock for the victory.

Kessner finished with five goals, while Chapdelaine earned four goals, two assists, four groundballs, and nine draw controls. Bedell also picked up nine draw controls to go along with her two goals as Lasell finished with more draw controls than Regis, 19-12.
