Women's Lacrosse Loses High Scoring Contest

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College was unable to come back from a nine-goal first quarter by UMass Dartmouth, falling to the Corsairs, 17-14, in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Regis Stadium.

Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) tied the program single-match assists record with five assists while Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) scored six goals and had one assist. Abbie Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.) finished with four goals while Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) added three and Retta Hatin (Hooksett, N.H.) had one goal and one assist.

Conover scored the first two goals for the Pride, scoring on a free position shot and off an assist from Pero. From there, the Corsairs scored the next six goals until Pero found Conover and Marley who both scored to finish the quarter, 9-4, in favor of the visitors.

After only scoring once in the second quarter, a Doheny goal off a pass from Conover, the pair would each score twice in the third to put Regis within six (15-9).

The Pride pushed to come back in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals straight with scores coming from Doheny, Marley, and Conover. Marley and Hatin scored the final two goals of the game to put the Pride within three (17-14) but ran out of time before finishing the comeback.

Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished with eight saves in the loss while Payton Conceicao finished with 12 saves for UMass Dartmouth.

Maddie Wright led the UMass Dartmouth offense with eight goals and five assists while Melanny Sanchez Alvarez added four goals. Widline Thomas completed her hat trick with three goals while Hannah Mitus and Erin Donovan both contributed one goal.

Regis College (4-4, 2-3 GNAC) returns to conference play on Saturday, April 1, with a road game against Anna Maria starting at 12 p.m.
