Women’s Lacrosse Loses at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – Regis College could not convert enough offensive opportunities to mount a comeback, as Rivier University took the early lead and held off the Pride for a 15-5 victory Sunday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse match at Joanne Merrill Field.

Regis struck first less than three minutes into the first quarter thanks to an unassisted goal by Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.). Rivier answered back with six straight goals, half of them coming from Sarah Lachance, before the Pride broke the Raider scoring streak late in the quarter on an unassisted tally by Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.).

Lachance played a role in all three second quarter goals for the Raiders with two assists and one goal as Rivier extended its lead to 9-2. Regis scored twice in a 19-second span as Mia Rogers (Revere, Mass.) converted on a free-position attempt and Conover notched her second goal of the day to pull the Pride with five goals at 9-4 heading into halftime.

Rivier (3-2, 2-2 GNAC) scored three times in the third period and three times in the fourth quarter to extend its lead into double figures. The Pride earned one final goal with 4:41 left in the match as Rogers converted on a free-position attempt for the second time.

Lachance led the Raiders with six goals, three assists, and five draw controls, while Caitlin Newell finished with four goals and two assists. Cassie Hemmerdinger finished with two goals as well as a match-high 10 groundballs, and Bailey Carroll contributed two goals and two assists to the winning effort.

Lindsey Kruger earned the victory for the Raiders after totaling 11 saves, while Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished with nine saves in net for the Pride. Marley led the Pride with five draw controls, and Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) added five groundballs and four draw controls.

Regis College (4-3, 2-3 GNAC) hosts UMass Dartmouth in the Pride's final regular season non-conference match this year Tuesday, March 28, beginning at 5 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
