Pride Women’s Lacrosse Wins Home Opener, 15-8

WESTON, Mass. - In the long-awaited 2023 home opener for Regis College, the Pride took the early lead and held off Albertus Magnus College on the way to a 15-8 victory Thursday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Albertus Magnus struck first 4:48 into the match as Serena Montague converted on a free position attempt. Just 12 seconds later, Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) was successful on her own free position shot to tie the match, and then she put the Pride ahead for good 10 seconds later with another free position goal.

Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) scored off an assist by Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) to extend the Regis lead, but the Falcons drew back within one goal on a tally by Kaitlin D'Agostino off an assist from Alexandra Barrett. The Pride closed the first quarter with three straight goals from Marley, Conover, and Krysonia Tavares (Everett, Mass.).

Regis increased its lead to 9-2 early in the second quarter thanks to goals by Maddey Strickland (Hopkinton, Mass.), Conover, and Pero. Down 10-3 in the third period after a goal by Mia Rogers (Revere, Mass.), Albertus Magnus scored three of the next four goals, all coming from Amanda McGeehan.

The Pride would outscore the Falcons in the fourth quarter 4-2 to close out the match. Conover finished with four goals and two assists, while Marley collected four goals, one assist, and 15 draw controls, the second-highest total in a single match in program history. Pero contributed two goals and one assists, and Abbie Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.) added two goals and six draw controls.

McGeehan led the Falcons with her hat trick, plus she caused four turnovers, and Lillian Woods finished with a match-high 10 groundballs. Kelly Musante earned 13 saves in net for Albertus Magnus, and Regis goalie Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) made 10 saves as she earned her second victory of the season.

Regis College (2-1, 1-1 GNAC) travels to face University of Saint Joseph Saturday, March 18, starting at 1 p.m. Albertus Magnus College (0-3, 0-2 GNAC) hits the road Saturday to take on Colby-Sawyer College, also with a 1 p.m. start.
