Regis Women’s Lacrosse Loses at Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Regis College could not stop an early scoring run by Dean College, as the Bulldogs would defeat the Pride, 20-13, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse match at Grant Field.

Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) led the Pride with four goals and two assists for six total points, while Mia Rogers (Revere, Mass.) also notched a hat trick with three goals. Abbie Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.) paced the team with six draw controls as Regis won more draw controls than Dean, 20-16, and Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) contributed two goals, two assists, five groundballs, five draw controls, and four caused turnovers.

Dean (1-1, 1-0 GNAC) scored 43 seconds into the match, but Regis answered one minute later as Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) notched an unassisted goal. The Bulldogs opened a 6-1 advantage with five unanswered goals, three of them scored by Jazzy Sztyler-Magee, before Marley earned her first goal of the match off a Conover assist.

Each team scored four goals in the second quarter as Dean took an 11-6 lead into halftime. Sztyler-Magee scored four goals in the third quarter, half of her team's total in the period, to extend the Bulldog lead to 19-9, with Maire Brown scoring early in the fourth quarter to give the home team an 11-goal advantage.

The Pride would score the final four goals of the match, beginning with the first career collegiate goal for Retta Hatin (Hooksett, N.H.). Rogers completed her first career hat trick with a free position goal, and then Krysonia Tavares (Everett, Mass.) picked up her first career collegiate goal 13 seconds later off an assist from Pero. Marley completed the scoring with a goal right before the final buzzer.

Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) made 13 saves in net for the Pride, while Allie Stockwell collected 12 saves to keep the Bulldogs ahead throughout the match. Sztyler-Magee finished with 10 goals and two assists, and Brown contributed three goals, two assists, eight groundballs, nine draw controls, and four caused turnovers.

Regis (1-1, 0-1 GNAC) finally opens its home schedule against Albertus Magnus Thursday, March 16, beginning at 7 p.m.
