Brittany McPherson Earns GNAC WLAX Goalie of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – After helping Regis College to its third victory in as many matches last Tuesday, junior Brittany McPherson (Lynn, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

McPherson made six saves, three in each half, as the Pride overcame an early Salem State goal to defeat the Vikings, 13-7. She buckled down when it was a virtual one-on-one situation with a Viking attacker, as Salem State was just 2-for-6 in free position attempts during the match.

The 2019 GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year, McPherson basically picked up where she left off to start the 2020 season, posting a goals against average of 6.33 and a save percentage of .513 with 20 total saves through three matches. She was victorious in all three contests to become the third goalkeeper in program history with at least 20 career wins.

McPherson is collecting her fifth career GNAC weekly award, as she was named GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week four times within a five-week span last season (March 25-April 22, 2019). She is the second Pride women's lacrosse student-athlete to pick up a weekly honor in as many weeks, as Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) received GNAC Player of the Week recognition last Monday.

Last Friday, recognizing the spread and ongoing threat of COVID-19, the GNAC Presidents' Council voted unanimously to call off all spring competition, practices, and championships for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year. Starting Monday, Regis College transitioned all classes fully online until further notice, and it was decided, in light of Sunday night's emergency order from Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, to close the residence halls in the best interests of the students and the entire Regis community.
