PRIDE WRAP UP TOP SEED WITH SENIOR DAY WIN

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's lacrosse team defeated New England Collegiate Conference foe Wheelock College 14-5 during a Senior Day contest on Saturday afternoon at Regis Stadium. With the victory the Pride wrap up the season at an 11-5 mark and finish undefeated, 6-0 in conference play. The Wildcats drop to 5-7, 4-2 NECC with the loss.

In a halftime ceremony, seniors Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.), Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.), Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.), Katie Haidemenos (Warwick, R.I.), Becka Sarson (York, Maine), and Shannon Simonelli (Providence, R.I.) were honored for their contributions to the program.

The Pride got on the board first a minute in as junior attack Sierra Luce (Hartford, Vt.) found Grace Politis in the middle of the attacking zone and ripped a one-timer past goaltender Meghan Lewis (S. Berwick, Maine) for an early 1-0 lead. The Crimson and Gold's next goal came six minutes later as Politis deposited a shot top shelf to put Regis out in front 2-0.

The Wildcats responded by cutting the deficit in half when Molly Centore (Kennebunk, Maine) off a restart made a quick pass in front to teammate Molly Koon (Londonderry, N.H.) who converted an open shot past Pride keeper Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.).

Regis then ripped off six consecutive goals to take a commanding lead in the contest. Katie Haidemenos scored her first of the game at the 18:24 mark and Grace Politis followed thirty seconds later with her third goal of the half.

Junior attack Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) took over the game as she scored four straight goals to put the Pride up 8-1. Salamone's free position tally at the 10:33 mark was her 200th career goal.

Molly Centore got two back for Wheelock as she scored four seconds after Salamone's goal when she won a draw and streaked down the field. She the second goal minutes later as she collected a missed shot rebound and put it in the back of the net.

Katie Haidemenos ended the half with two consecutive goals to put the Pride up 10-3 at the intermission.

The Pride outscored the Wildcats 4-2 in the second half as Politis scored three goals in second stanza and Nicole Roche (Waltham, Mass.) added the other.

Grace Politis had a huge eight point effort as she scored six goals and handed out two assists while scooping up five groundballs. Teresa Busiek and Sashae Walls snagged a team-high eight groundballs during the win. Emma Decker made seven saves in net.

Violet Vig (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored a goal during the contest and also grabbed five groundballs. Meghan Lewis stopped 19 shots in the losing effort.

Wheelock heads home for their season finale against conference rival Southern Vermont tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
