FIRST HALF SURGE LIFTS REGIS OVER ELMS, 12-5

CHICOPEEE, Mass. – Regis College used three goals from Katie Haidemenos (Warwick, R.I.) to spark the Pride to a 12-5 victory over Elms College in Wednesday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse game at Leary Field. With the loss, Elms moves to 3-9 on the season, 1-2 in conference play, while Regis improves to 11-3 overall, 4-0 in NECC action.

Regis used a strong first half output highlighted by two goals from Haidemenos, two goals from Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.), and one each from Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.), Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.), Rachel Wong (Wakefield, Mass.) and Lindsey Graver (Bellingham, Mass.) to help the Pride stake an 8-1 lead.

Kathleen Tuechler (Farmingdale, N.Y.) put Elms on the board with 20:56 to play in the first half to make the score 3-1 before Regis closed out the half with five straight markers.

Junior attacker Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) scorched the net just 1:24 into the second half to pull the Blazers to within six, but the Pride answered with four straight goals. Wehr and Heidemenos each tallied a goal, while Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) delivered back-to-back strikes to give Regis a 12-2 lead.

With 1:34 left to play in the game, Elms netted three goals, including one each from sophomore attacker Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.), Tuechler and junior attacker Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) to set the final score at 12-5.

Elms' sophomore defender Emily Brown (Agawam, Mass.) notched a game-high eight groundballs and caused a pair of turnovers, while Tuechler added three draw controls, and Pirog had five groundballs caused two turnovers. Elms College sophomore net minder Sarah Carpenter (Vernon, Conn.) made 11 saves.

Walls finished with seven groundball pickups and Salamone added five groundballs to go along with three caused turnovers, while Walls finished with four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) stopped 12 shots between the pipes for the Pride to seal the win.

Regis returns to action on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of the 2013 NECC Championship game against Becker College at 1:00 p.m.
