BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) scored four goals and assisted on five others to help pace the Regis College women's lacrosse team to an 18-7 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action played at Sweeney Field.
The Pride, winners of five in a row, improve to 10-3 on the season while the Leopards drop to 3-9 with the loss.
Busiek and sophomore Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) scored goals 45 seconds apart to give Regis a 2-0 lead before Wentworth tied it up off markers from freshman Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.) and sophomore Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.).
The Pride would score the next four goals as junior Katie Haidemenos (Warwick, R.I.), junior Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.), junior Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.), and Salamone all found the back of the net.
Mudge scored a pair of goals, sandwiched around a Busiek goal, which made it 7-4 with 5:14 left in the opening stanza.
Regis would score the next six goals as Busiek and Walls scored twice and Politis and Salamone had a goal apiece to take a 13-4 lead with 24:47 left in the game.
Mudge's fourth of the game ended the Leopard drought with 17:34 left before the Pride scored five of the final seven goals to complete the scoring.
Salamone finished with four goals and one assist, Politis had three goals and one assist, Walls had three goals, and sophomore Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) added a pair of goals.
Regis won 22 of 27 draw controls with Politis winning eight and Salamone taking five. Walls picked up five ground balls and caused four turnovers. Sophomore Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) made nine saves in the win.
Mudge scored four of Wentworth's seven goals while Dexter, freshmen Molly Dufresne (Plaistow, N.H.) and Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) each had a goal. Junior Melissa Pilley (Lancaster, Mass.) had six ground balls and four caused turnovers while junior Beverly Farris (Palmer, Mass.) had six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior Robyn Pacini (Stoneham, Mass.) made four saves in 23:30 before giving way to sophomore Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) who made six stops in 36:30.
Wentworth returns to action tomorrow afternoon as the Leopards host Salve Regina while Regis is at Elms on April 23.
