DEFENDING CHAMPION REGIS SELECTED AT TOP OF POLLS

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's lacrosse team has been chosen to finish at the top of the NECC women's lacrosse standings in a vote by the league's coaches. The defending NECC Champions open up play on Wednesday, February 26 at 4:30 p.m. against Rivier.

The Pride, who received all seven first place votes and 49 points, return 11 starters including four All-Conference players and last season's NECC Rookie of the Year, Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.). Salamone and junior captain Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) combined for 170 goals and 46 assists a season ago, as well as 175 groundballs and 201 draw controls.

Becker placed second with 38 points. The 2013 NECC runner-up returns 10 starters, including the NECC Player of the Year Ashley Mossey.

Elms was the third choice followed by Wheelock, Daniel Webster, Bay Path and Mitchell who is competing in their first season of varsity lacrosse.

The top four teams will qualify for a single elimination tournament with starting with the NECC Semifinals on Wednesday, April 30 and Finals on Saturday, May 3. The NECC champion will get an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
