POLITIS SCORES EIGHT IN VICTORY OVER WILDCATS, 20-4

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College women's lacrosse team defeated Wheelock College Thursday night by the score of 20-4. The victory moves the Pride to 7-4 overall on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 0-9 on the season.

The Pride was led by freshman Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) who netted a team high of eight goals on the game. Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) and Katie Haidemenos (Warwick, R.I.) chipped in with three goals apiece.

Regis started the first period with two quick goals from Politis who tallied both goals within the first two minutes of play. Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) notched the third goal of the game to put the Pride up 3-0. Regis would go on a 9-0 run in the first half that was capped by a Haidemenos who converted off a pass from Busiek late in the first half.

The Wildcats got on the board late in the first half when Jenna Ghoman (Danvers, Mass.) cut back door to complete a pass from Christina Cubera (Baltimore, M.d.) to make the score 9-1.Regis tallied three more goals in first half to bring the score to 12-1 at halftime.

The second half opened with a tally from the Wildcats as Karlye Kennedy (Byfield, Mass.) finished a fast break opportunity to move the score to 12-2.

Regis tallied the next six goals of the game with three coming from Busiek to put the Pride up by 16 points halfway through the second period.

Valerie Ferrante (Milford, Mass.) and Katie Gavin (Manchester, Mass.) notched two goals to slow the Pride rally and move the score to 18-4.Politis and Haidemnos ratcheted off the two final goals of the game to bring the Pride's  final total to 20.

The Pride defense was led by junior goalkeeper Meghan Ryan (Stowe, Mass.) who stopped 10 shots to record 10 saves on the game.  Wheelock split time in goal between Alanna Phil (Franconia, N.H.) and Monica Bettle (Pembroke, Mass.) who combined for 12 saves on the game.

The Pride's next game is Saturday when the team travels to Green Mountain College for a non conference contest set for a 3:30 p.m. start. The Wildcats will be in action again on Saturday, April 14 when they host University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 11:30 a.m. at Winsor Field.
