POLITIS POWERS PRIDE WITH EIGHT POINTS IN LOSS TO SALEM STATE 18-15

WESTON, Mass.-The Regis College women's college lacrosse team was defeated by Salem State Tuesday night by the score of 18-15. The Pride moves to 4-3 overall on the season, while the Vikings even their standings at 1-1.

The Regis offense was powered by freshman Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.)  who led all scorers with eight points. Politis scored seven goals and had one assist on the night.  Sophomore Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) chipped in for the Pride as she found the net four times and dished one assist to finish second in scoring for Regis.

Salem State was led by senior captain Kaitlyn Shidler (Peabody, Mass.) who scored six goals on the game. Bridget Dullea (Peabody, Mass.) scored five goals and an assist, while senior captain Kate Warren (Sandwich, Mass.) contributed with seven points as she had four helpers and scored three goals of her own.

The Vikings jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead as they received two goals from Shidler and Dullea early in the first half. Salem looked to control most of the first half as they took a 10-6 lead into the break.  Dullea opened up the scoring to give the Vikings their largest lead of the game 19 seconds into the half to give Salem a five goal lead.

The Regis College defense responded by settling the Vikings offense and shutting down Shidler. This gave the Pride an opportunity to push the ball on the offensive side of the field.  The Pride's offense finally found a groove by scoring six unanswered goals under the strong play of Politis who netted three during the span.  Regis grabbed its first lead of the game when Busiek drove hard to the goal and put a shot past Molly Blewett to make the score 12-11 in favor of the Pride.

Both squads would go shot for shot on goal tying the game up at 14 apiece late in the second period. Dullea got the Vikings rolling when she scored at the 7:46 mark to put Salem State up by one. She would respond less than a minute later netting another goal to give the Vikings a two point lead at 16-14.

Freshman goalie Molly Blewett (Gloucester, Mass.) picked up her first win in net for Salem making 11 saves in net. The Pride was led by junior goaltender Meghan Ryan (Stow, Mass.) who made 15 saves on the game.

The Vikings will return to action on Thursday as they travel to non-conference opponent Mount Ida College for a 4:00 pm start time.  Regis College will host Thomas College  in its next game on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
