POLITIS' SEVEN GOALS PUT PRIDE PAST AMCATS 18-16

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's lacrosse team defeated Anna Maria College Thursday night at the AMCAT field by the score of 18-16. The Pride improves to 3-2 overall on the season, while the AMCATS drop to 1-2.

The Pride was led by freshman Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) who tallied a team high seven goals on the game.  Sophomore Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) chipped in with a solid performance for the Pride notching seven points on six goals and an assist. Freshmen Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) and Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with single goal tallies.
Anna Maria was paced by Katie Schebel's (Ludlow, Mass.) third consecutive six goal game, the senior finished with seven points on the night, fellow midfielder Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) had six points including a game-high four assists. Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) and Mackenzie Coakley each found the back of the twine four times.
 

In the first half Anna Maria took a quick 3-1 lead on a hat trick by Katie Schebel less than three minutes into the game. Regis responded with a fast paced attack scoring eight unanswered goals to grab a 9-3 advantage. Freshman attack Grace Politis jump-started the Pride offense by shredding through the AMCAT defense to net four of Regis' eight. Teresa Busiek helped out in this offensive burst by netting a pair of single tallies during the run.

Anna Maria wouldn't back down and after a timeout called by Coach Serratore the Lady AMCATS scored the remaining seven goals of the half. Senior Mackenzie Coakley (Millbury, Mass.) converted a nice pass from behind the net from Amanda Hevy to cut the score to 9-5 at 12:37. Katie Schebel, Sandy Acosta and Hevy each scored 8-meter goals and an unassisted goal by Acosta with 4:28 on the clock gave AMC a 10-9 lead at halftime.
The teams traded four goals in the first ten minutes of the second half as Anna Maria protected an slim 12-11 lead, however Regis' sophomore Teresa Busiek found the back of the net twice in thirty seconds, freshman Sashae Walls scored unassisted and Politis converted a free position shot and to gain a 15-12 advantage with 17:56 remaining.
 
Anna Maria responded with a man-up unassisted goal by Sandy Acosta and another Hevy to Coakley score to cut the deficit to 15-14. Regis outscored the AMCATS 3-2 down the stretch for the hard fought 18-16 win.
The Pride returns to action Saturday when they host Elms College at 12:00 p.m. The AMCAT women's lacrosse returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Lasell College for an 11:00 AM match-up.
