BUSIEK NETS SEVEN IN PRIDE VICTORY

WESTON, Mass.Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) netted seven goals and added an assist for an eight-point day as Regis College defeated Becker College, 15-5, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action. The Pride improves to 2-2 this season while the Hawks drop to 0-3.

Becker got the scoring started as Morgan Hazen (Woodstock, Vt.) found Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) in the front of the net and Mossey gave the Hawks an early 1-0 lead only 1:56 into the game. Busiek knotted the game at one a couple of minutes later as she went the length of the field, juked several defenders, and scored. Nearly two minutes later, Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) gave the Pride the lead for good with her first goal of the contest. The Pride extended their lead to 9-1 by using a 7-0 run over the next 15 minutes of action. Busiek netted four goals during the stretch, while Politis added two of her own and Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) scored the other for Regis.

Becker's Shannon Smith (Barre, Vt.) and Katelin Burdick (Pawtucket, Conn.) each scored in the final minutes of the opening half to make it a 9-3 game headed into the break.

Coming out of the half, Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) and Teresa Busiek scored two early goals in similar fashion, going the length of the field and through the Becker defense, to give Regis an 11-3 lead 21:08 remaining. The Hawks' Ashley Mossey scored her second goal of the game on a free position shot with 17:10 remaining in regulation, but the Pride answered with four-straight goals to push it to 15-4.

Busiek notched her seventh goal of the game in the 16th-minute before Lindsey Graver (Bellingham, Mass.) entered the scoring column and Politis added two more to round out the scoring for Regis. Becker's Shannon Smith added a goal in the final minute to make it a 15-5 game.

Regis outshot the Hawks, 37-24, while also holding a 34-26 advantage in groundballs. The Pride went 4-for-9 on its free position attempts and forced 23 Becker turnovers in the win.

Meghan Ryan (Stow, Mass.) earned her second victory of the season by making four saves and allowing three goals. Katie Haidemenos (Warwick, R.I.) finished out the second half for Regis, allowing only two goals while making nine saves and adding five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Becker's Karena Prescott (New Bedford, Mass.) suffered the setback, making 13 saves while allowing 15 goals.

Busiek led all scorers with seven goals and an assist, while also adding five groundballs and four caused turnovers. Grace Politis tallied five goals of her own and also grabbed five groundballs and three draw controls. Joseph, Graver, and Walls rounded out the scoring for Regis, while Ellie Healy (South Burlington, Vt.) and Andrea Barbosa (Taunton, Mass.) each added assists. Sashae Walls and Barbosa grabbed five groundballs apiece and Walls added a game-high five draw controls.

Becker was paced by two goals apiece from Shannon Smith and Ashley Mossey. Morgan Hazen added an assist to go with five groundballs and a team-high four draw controls. Mossey added a game-high six groundballs to go with three draw controls and three cause turnovers.

Regis returns to action on Thursday night when the Pride travels to Anna Maria College for a matchup with the AMCATS at 7:00 p.m. Becker continues the search for its first win of the season when the Hawks also travel to Anna Maria for a 4:00 p.m. game on Tuesday afternoon.
