NASHUA, N.H. – Regis College faced a tough challenge in its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball matchup against Rivier University on Saturday afternoon, as they ultimately fell to Rivier University, 85-48, at the Muldoon Gymnasium in Nashua, New Hampshire.
The Pride showed strong energy early in the game, staying within striking distance during the first quarter, with a score of 24-13. The second quarter saw Rivier's offense take over as they outscored Regis 23-4, building a 47-17 lead at halftime. The Raiders' balanced attack was led by Lyric Grumblatt, who finished with 25 points and six rebounds. She was an efficient 9-of-13 from the field and added four assists. Regis kept battling, despite a strong offensive showing from the Raiders in the second quarter, which gave Rivier a solid 47-17 lead at halftime.
Regis made some adjustments in the second half, showing more resilience to score 15 points in the third quarter, led by Doherty's continued playmaking. While the deficit was large, the Pride continued to fight, outscoring Rivier 15-11 in the period. Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) added six points in the third, with some strong rebounds and key shots to keep her team in the game. However, Rivier's efficient shooting kept them in control to lead 74-32, heading into the final quarter.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the game seemed out of reach for Regis, but they refused to back down, outscoring the Raiders 16-11. Despite its efforts, the Pride could not come back, resulting in a 85-48 final. Doherty led the Pride with 19 points, hitting 5-of-17 from the field and adding six rebounds, while Zancan contributed 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
