WESTON, Mass. – Regis College was defeated by the University of Saint Joseph 76-55, battling in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon.
Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.) led the Pride with 14 points, three rebounds and one block. Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) finished with 11 points apiece, with Zancan pulling down five rebounds and Marinelli collecting two rebounds.
The Blue Jays started the game with a 10-2 lead and continued to apply offensive pressure to outscore the Pride 26-11 at the close of the first quarter. The Blue Jays opened the second quarter with a 6-1 scoring run before a three-pointer from Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.)brought Regis within 20 points at 36-16. An 8-5 scoring run would close out the second quarter with the Blue Jays to lead 50-25 at the half.
University of Saint Joseph extended its lead, outscoring Regis 17-9 in the third quarter to lead 67-34. Regis gained some offensive momentum in the final quarter to outscore the Blue Jays 21-9, however the Blue Jays would prevail 76-55 to secure the conference win.
Maya Slisz led the Blue Jays with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Jordan Ouellette and Maci Dorantes contributed 14 points each.
Regis (4-12, 3-3 GNAC) hosts Emmanuel on Wednesday, Jan. 29, for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
University of Saint Joseph (11-6, 6-1 GNAC) is scheduled to host Mitchell on Wednesday, Jan 29, at 5:00 p.m.
