NEW LONDON, Conn. – Regis College defeated Mitchell College 90-58, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's collegiate basketball game, Saturday afternoon.
Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I) led the Pride with 21 points and 15 rebounds, while earning two assists with one steal and one block. Zancan collected her 1,000th career point on the road in today's conference matchup. Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.) contributed 20 points with one rebound and five assists, while Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) accumulated 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Mariners started the game with an early lead just before multiple free throws and layups would tie the game at six points each. Regis went on a brief 4-2 scoring run to take the lead 14-11, however the Mariners added offensive pressure to trail by one point at 21-20 heading into the second quarter. Regis outscored Mitchell in an outstanding mark of 20-6 in the second quarter to lead 41-26 heading into the third quarter.
The Mariners collected the first three points of the third quarter just before a three-pointer from Striggles and consecutive layups from Doherty and Zancan would extend the Pride lead at 50-29. Mitchell increased its offensive output with the help of Jamya Beddoe, but was unable to catch up to the Pride, to later result in a 90-58 final.
Beddoe led the Mariners with 21 points while Jordyn Streitmatter and Jade Hypolite collected nine points apiece.
Regis (3-11, 2-2 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to face Norwich University on Tuesday, Jan. 21, with a 5:00 p.m. start. Mitchell (2-8, 0-4 GNAC) are set to travel to face Elms on Tuesday, Jan. 21 with a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
