Madi Zancan Named to Feb. 20 Weekly NEWBA Second Team

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – For the third time this season, including the second time within the past three weeks, sophomore Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) has been named to the second team of the weekly honor roll by the New England Women's Basketball Association, announced Tuesday, Feb. 20, by the coaches' organization.

During the final week of the regular season, Zancan averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Last Wednesday at Colby-Sawyer, she scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half to lead the Pride back from an 18-point deficit to force overtime with the Chargers, plus she grabbed eight rebounds.

In Saturday's regular season finale against Johnson and Wales, Zancan shot 8-for-13 from the field as she finished with 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals. It was her 12th game this season with 20 or more points.

Zancan was previously included on the NEWBA Second Team Jan. 9 and Feb. 6. With 18 points in Monday's GNAC Tournament First Round game against Colby-Sawyer, Zancan is now just 14 points away from becoming the third player in Regis basketball history to score 500 points in a single season, joining Brittany Stone in both 2016-17 and 2017-18 and Julie Rando in 1992-93.

The Regis women's basketball team is on its way to West Hartford, Conn., for a quarterfinal game in the 2024 GNAC Women's Basketball Tournament against University of Saint Joseph later Tuesday starting at 5 p.m.
