Regis Drops to USJ, 79-54

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Regis College was defeated by the University of Saint Joseph 79-54, battling in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I) led the Pride with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, while also hitting one three-pointer. Haley Lightbody (Reading, Mass.) finished with 13 points, collecting four rebounds, and two assists. Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) accumulated 12 points for the Pride with two assists and two rebounds.

The Pride started the game with an early lead but could not hold on as the Blue Jays ran off a 15-0 scoring run in the first quarter, ultimately outscoring the Pride 24-6 in the second quarter. Regis battled back in the third quarter, earning 18 points, closing the deficit by 33 points.

Regis gained some offensive momentum in the final quarter, earning 22 points, while outscoring the Blue Jays 22-14.

Jordan Ouellette led the Blue Jays with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Maya Slisz earned 14 points with four rebounds and four assists. Janai Oliver and Taylor Verboven earned 12 points each.

Regis (6-11, 4-2 GNAC) are set to travel to Boston, Mass to face Emmanuel College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Wednesday, Jan. 24, starting at 7:30 p.m. The University of Saint Joseph travels to Mitchell College on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. for its next Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup.
